On May 11th, more than 100 organizations around the world expressed their solidarity with the Shuar Arutam People (PSHA) of the Ecuadorian Amazon and demanded that the authorities take urgent measures regarding a possible outbreak of COVID-19 and the increase in risk of contagion due to the persistence of mining activities in its territory.
The Shuar Arutam People need now your urgent support. The pressures of the pandemic are hitting hard their communities. Sanitary supplies and food need to be brought to many communities that don’t have health care and where supplies are running low due to containment measures. The Shuar Arutam People’s Government Council has implemented its own response measures to the health emergency, but it requires your support to reach the most remote areas and protect its population.
Around 1200 families of the Shuar Arutam People in 2019, were living in one of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the Amazon basin, was recognized as a Territory of Life, TICCA, because it maintains a strong sense of belonging to the territory, they have their own government that watches over the welfare and common goods, and maintains more than 200 thousand hectares of Amazon forest where the fortress of Arutam, its protective spirit, protects them.
The Shuar Arutam People need your solidarity. Give your support now!
