Who are we?
All greencrowds.org projects are part of the Small Grants Program (SGP), which was born during the Rio Summit in 1992. This is a corporate program of the Global Environment Facility (GEF), implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and executed by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
In Ecuador, SGP has operated since 1994. Since 2012, SGP has been working in the Biocorridors for Living Well, aiming to generate socio-environmental connectivity in four ecosystems which are of local, national and global importance: paramo, dry forests, mangroves and tropical rainforests.
What we do?
On the 16th of April a devastating earthquake with magnitude 7.8 shook the Ecuadorian coast and ended the lives of 663 people, affecting almost two million individuals. More than 1800 homes were affected and 70.000 people currently remain at risk.
On the 18th of May, one month after the quake, strong aftershocks of magnitude 6.7 and 6.8 rattled the country again, amplifying the disaster zone and leaving yet more people in precarious situations.
This crowdfunding platform is a contribution of the SGP to community associations affected by the earthquake. This tool allows communities to raise funds for the recovery of their productive activities.
What is Crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding is a collaborative funding mechanism, which adds individual contributions to achieve recovery activities for sustainable community projects.
